John Singer Sargent

Studying/learning is a never-ending part of my life. We can definitely learn a lot from an artwork that has stood the test of time by studying it. For this week, I found John Singer Sargent's portrait an interesting subject to study.

Sargent is definitely one of the most amazing painters of all time, and I have always admired his work because of the way he captures real life. I decided to study his self-portrait to learn a bit from him. Each element of his amazing masterpiece has a lesson to teach. Especially his brushstrokes, colors and values (almost everything right?:)) )!

Having said that, studies are not necessarily meant to be a struggle to create an exact replica of the original artwork, therefore a single alteration in a masterpiece goes a long way when done carefully. So for me, this study was an attempt to bring Sargent's portrait to the 21st century.

Nevertheless, I always enjoy following in the footsteps of great artists like Sargent, I will definitely do more studies on his work in the near future...
